What to Expect

Before

help avoid bruising by stopping anti-inflammatory medications such as: aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil (3-4 days before)

take Arnica tablets 2-3 days prior to prevent bruising, purchase here

avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after appointment to help avoid bruising 

schedule procedure at least 2 weeks before a big event

After

ICE ICE ICE ICE ICE. Immediately after injection and as much as you can after. This will prevent your lips from severe swelling

no facial massages/facials for at least 7 days after injections

be gentle with your lips and use a gentle lip balm or our favorite: Sweet Tox Vegan After Treatment Balm

Use Sweet Tox Vitamin K Creme or Arnica Gel to help with swelling and bruising

if severe swelling occurs or you want to prevent severe swelling, taking a Benadryl or Zyrtec and Pepcid can help tame the swelling process

stay upright for 4 hours after injection (if going to sleep, prop head up with a pillow to keep swelling at a minimum) 

Normal Side Effects

bruising (can last 3-7 days) and is usually localized to a couple of dots on the lip. It’s ok to cover up bruising with a nice matte lipstick

swelling: lips can get double in size from the time after the appointment and usually we are most swollen in the morning. this usually lasts 3-4 days after injections and is settled by 1 week

numbness and coolness (numbing solution inside of the product can last a couple hours after injection)

tenderness at injection sites (can last up to a week)  

lumps and bumps on lips- normal for 2 weeks. If still present after 2 weeks when product is fully settled, it’s ok to try and massage them with a little pressure to see if it smoothes out.  If it doesn't, contact us and we’ll walk you through it!

Not Normal Side Effects: (Contact Us ASAP)

observing any symptoms of a blocked blood vessel, which is a condition associated with blanching (white/gray patches on the skin lasting more than 4 hours after treatment) and pain beyond the level that you would expect. You may notice a cold area on your face or a tingling sensation, or that the area starts to feel quite sore. Alternatively, a rash known as livedo reticularis, which is a dusky discoloration of the skin, may appear. Pustules may also emerge

developing a fever and/or chills

observing discolored blotches in areas not injected
